FIND YOUR FREEDOM WALK // WAY FINDING INTERVENTION

This was my final Graphic Design assessment. The task revolved around creating a way finding intervention for an area of your choice. I chose the Manly to Shelly Beach walk, taking the user on a journey of the history that once was and how this has shaped the modern day landscape of Manly today. I began by researching the history and cultural identity of the area. Manly has a rich heritage, from its Indigenous roots to its evolution as a popular coastal destination. Understanding this history helped me create a design that felt authentic and connected to the landscape. I also focused on collecting graphic patterns that resonated with Manly’s natural and built environment. This included organic waveforms inspired by the ocean, linear patterns reflecting the boardwalks, and textures found in the surrounding bushland and sea life. The final step was generating a wayfinding intervention that maintained consistency across different touch points. I ensured that typography, colour palettes, and iconography were uniform throughout the system, creating a cohesive experience for users. The intervention not only guided people through Manly but also enhanced their connection to the space by reflecting its unique identity through design.
